OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, serve as the primary resource driving preventative and proactive maintenance, working with international vendors and interacting with the graphics department to adjust images and print quality of the digital printers. Lead the analysis and preparation of materials for the glaze line process, as well as continuously monitoring and driving waste reduction and process improvement in this world class organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Key leader in the development and implementation of safe work practices, as well as setting safe condition standards; particularly in the areas of ergonomics and material handling

  • Key leader in the facilitation of the Behavior Based Safety program, drives the Management of Change process and ensures all relevant LOTO's, JHA's and SOP's are taught, audited and continuously reviewed

  • Evaluates innovative process technologies and communicates with Technical Manager on technical operations

  • Utilizes strong analytical Six Sigma process to ensure the Design Measure Analyze Implement & Control methodology is followed and the team realizes the price of non-conformance

  • Supervises process improvement research and new product introduction and monitors the research of new materials to improve processes and reduce costs

  • Conducts Quality Control audits and coordinates corrective actions when audits reveal operations outside control plan specifications; follows the Quality Management System

  • Analyzes production and material failures to ensure corrective and preventive actions are developed that improves safety, quality and production reflecting best practices

  • Resolves technical problems with regards to shade variations, glaze defects, application problems and other problems as needed

  • Maintains standards and assists Technical Manager with process improvements with success measured by process reliability

  • Coordinates necessary training identified in technical areas using internal and external resources

  • Extensive knowledge of digital printing, graphic adjustments and on the floor practical aptitude toward the digital printing process and equipment

  • Maintains budget, records, and other controls to keep costs at a minimum consistent with efficient operations; maintain proper shutdown, startup, and operational procedures

  • Troubleshoot and maintain complex electrical, electronics, communication, analyzing error message, and error simulation

  • Understand and maintain ink pressure systems (meniscus, purge, printer)

  • Troubleshoot and maintain complex pneumatic, electronic and mechanical systems

  • Disassemble and properly reassemble complex and precise mechanical assemblies (relating to the printing process and quality thereof)

  • Understand all aspects of the printer workflow color balance, droplet size, load and print images, modify images utilizing Photoshop software

  • Troubleshoot, change, and align print heads

  • Identify and correct common digital printer quality defects

  • Maintain inkjet printer machines and accordingly update service records thereof

  • Drive continuous improvement by developing engineering solutions that optimize all phases of the production process

  • Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or Engineering Technology and 3 years of experience in the ceramic tile manufacturing industry to include 1 year supervisory or operations experience. Experience must include: 1 year of experience in EACH of the following: industrial automation (PLC's, Communication Systems, various sensors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems), PC operating systems Windows & MAC, and Linux based systems; hands-on experience utilizing industrial hand tools in an industrial environment including but not limited to precision screw drivers, pliers, and cable joiners; working in an industrial environment that requires dependence upon others; directing the activities of others; providing services to the glaze lines; demonstrable experience in writing and modifying Omron PLC programs; demonstrable experience in identifying at least two industrial automation issues, that must include identifying precise problem(s) and implementation of a solution while maintaining effectiveness; and exercising a high level of mechanical dexterity and advance proficiency with hand tools. 3 years of EACH of the following: experience with industrial scale single pass inkjet printers and Fiber Optic, Ethernet, and Serial communication. Experience may be gained concurrently.
